KAMPALA — A prolonged drought in Uganda, driven by the El Niño climate phenomenon, has devastated crops, dried up water supplies, and delayed the planting season. As farmers struggle to save their yields — particularly beans and coffee — through emergency irrigation, the arrival of seasonal rains brings a new crisis.

Ugandan authorities are warning that heavier-than-normal rainfall could trigger flash floods and landslides. Severe weather threatens to destroy newly planted crops, worsening the food shortage and driving up prices across the broader region.

In response to these environmental challenges, the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB / UAR) is stepping up its awareness activities to mobilize continental media, promote climate action, and enhance disaster risk reduction for local communities.
